Train Your Dog Month 2022

In January, we all need a little incentive to get us going after the excitement of the festive period. We’ve already talked to you about January being Walk Your Dog Month, which helps to get dog owners focusing on how, and how much, they walk their dog. But, did you know that January is Train Your Dog Month too?

Many of us make resolutions at the beginning of a new year to help us amend any negative behaviours that we may have gotten into the habit of over the last year. Train Your Dog Month is the perfect way to set some new year's intentions for your furry friends too.

This fantastic event is also specifically set in January due to the large number of adoptions that are made, and new puppies that are purchased, over the Christmas period, giving new owners and family members a great chance to begin 2022 with the best possible start, alongside their new best friends.

So, what is National Train Your Dog Month? How can one get involved? And what are the best ways to treat your dogs when they’ve come top in class? All will become clear below as we delve into the minutiae of Train Your Dog Month and give you the lowdown on how to get involved this January.

What Is Train your Dog Month?

Train Your Dog Month is an initiative that was started in 2010 by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers to bring awareness of the importance of socialisation and training. This event was also launched to highlight the ease of training your dog and how much fun the process can be. The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) is an organisation that has over 6000 members worldwide and is committed to promoting better training, more solid relationships between pets and owners and a greater awareness of dog-friendly training techniques.

As we mentioned above, January was selected as Train Your Dog Month as many of us will be welcoming new dogs into our lives at Christmas time and getting them into good habits as soon as possible is of paramount importance, as the better trained your dog is the better their lives, as a part of your family, will be.

A good training routine and a healthy relationship will enable you and your dog to enjoy a great deal more of what the world has to offer to both of you. A dog that is trained well will be happy in any situation, regardless of new people, places or other animals, thus making a lot more adventures possible with your best friend by your side.
