What are Hemp and CBD?
Hemp is one of the fastest growing plants on earth and has a wide variety of uses including but not limited to clothing, cosmetics, paper, biodegradable plastics and of course food stuffs for us and our furry friends. Hemp is a very sustainable material and source of nutrition as it grows very efficiently, causes minimal harmful effects on the surrounding environment when it is grown and is of course biodegradable. As a foodstuff hemp provides rich sources of protein, dietary fibre, B vitamins, zinc, iron and omegas 3 & 6, which are all essential parts of a healthy diet in humans and pets alike. Hemp leaf also contains high levels of Cannabidiol or CBD. This amazing compound is used to stimulate the endocannabinoid system in your pet’s body which regulates the nervous and digestive systems and can be used to help with a wide range of ailments due to its almost magical properties.
The Benefits of Hemp and CBD for your Pets
Some research has shown that CBD can help with; joint pain in dogs and cats (as it is also a natural anti-inflammatory), anxiety and stress reduction, maintaining regular sleep patterns and there is also anecdotal evidence suggesting it can help with animals who suffer with seizures too. As stated above hemp is also a rich source of a whole heap of vitamins and minerals that can be beneficial for your dogs and cats in a myriad of ways. Omega-3 and omega-6 are fatty acids that are essential for healthy cell growth and can help to keep the skin and coat of our pets in tip-top condition. A plentiful supply of B vitamins in your pets diet are necessary to maintenance of the nervous and lymphatic systems, as is a good source of iron. Hemp is a great source of hypoallergenic protein for those animals with a sensitivity to certain common protein sources. All of the hemp products at The Pets Larder are also grain free and made with all natural ingredients, so you can always be safe in the knowledge that your pets are getting the very best.
