Saving You Money
Saving You Money
From July this year, we will be highlighting one animal charity every month that does the essential work of protecting, rescuing, rehoming and looking after the domestic and wild animals of Great Britain. We think it is essential that as many of these charities as possible get the funds they need to keep fighting the fight against animal cruelty and poor welfare and hope that our blog posts will help to spread the word for these wonderful organisations in some small way.
And when it comes to animal charities we would be remiss not to start with the oldest and largest animal welfare in the world, The RSPCA, with a particular focus on our local branch RSPCA Cornwall.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is a household name across the world in the realm of animal welfare. With its steadfast dedication to protecting and advocating for animals, the RSPCA stands as a beacon of hope for animals in need right across the UK.
The RSPCA was founded in 1824 in England by Reverend Arthur Broome and Richard Martin MP and was the first organisation of its kind in the world. Since its inception, the RSPCA has played a pivotal role in enacting animal welfare legislation, raising public awareness, and providing vital care and protection to animals in need. Its rich history is a testament to the enduring fight for compassion and justice for animals and it is now the largest animal welfare organisation in the world.
There are currently 15 RSPCA animal centres across the UK and a further 45 shelters ran independently by Branches, 4 wildlife centres and over 1000 shops. This helps to support animals in their care as well as rehoming over 25,000 animals each year.
The RSPCA Cornwall branch is a lifeline for animals in distress throughout the region. Responding to reports of animal cruelty, neglect, and abandonment, their dedicated team of professionals and volunteers works tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of animals. From domestic pets like cats and dogs to farm animals and a whole range of wildlife, the RSPCA Cornwall branch is equipped to handle a diverse range of cases.
Animal rescue is just the beginning of their journey. The Cornwall branch provides vital medical care, nourishment, and rehabilitation to animals in need. Whether it's nursing injured wildlife back to health or helping neglected pets regain their trust in humans, the RSPCA Cornwall branch's compassionate approach is unwavering. They create a safe and nurturing environment where animals can heal and regain their strength, preparing them for their second chance at a loving forever home.
The ultimate goal of the RSPCA Cornwall branch is to find loving and responsible forever homes for the animals in their care. Through thorough assessments of potential adopters, the branch ensures that animals are placed in suitable environments where they will receive the love, care, and attention they deserve.
Their adoption process focuses on matching the unique needs and personalities of the animals with suitable adopters. From conducting home visits to providing post-adoption support, the RSPCA Cornwall branch ensures a smooth transition and ongoing welfare for both the animals and their new families. And with over 1000 rehomings in the last two and a half years, they are doing a great job!
The RSPCA Cornwall branch recognises the importance of community engagement and education in building a compassionate society that values and respects animals. They actively engage with local schools, community groups, and events to raise awareness about animal welfare issues and promote responsible pet ownership.
Educational programs, workshops, and campaigns organised by the Cornwall branch aim to empower individuals with knowledge and understanding of animal care. By reaching out to the community, the RSPCA Cornwall branch strives to foster a culture of empathy and compassion towards animals, ensuring a brighter future for pets and wildlife.
To sustain their vital work, the RSPCA Cornwall branch relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations. Fundraising events, donations, and volunteer contributions play a crucial role in enabling the branch to continue its life-saving efforts. Whether through monetary donations, volunteering time, or donating supplies, every donation and contribution makes a tangible difference in the lives of animals in need across the country.
