When we first launched Paws for Peace, it was a small, personal project.
We’re just two parents, running a small business, raising children and dogs, and trying — like so many people — to make sense of the world around us. The news was heavy. The silence was heavier. And we felt powerless, watching as conflict, corruption, and division eroded the things we thought were secure: democracy, truth, equality.
So we started with what we had: creativity. A few T-shirts, inspired by protest movements of the past, reimagined with the help of AI.
It wasn’t about shouting. It was about sparking quiet conversations. About wearing hope on our sleeves — literally.
From the very beginning, we knew we wanted Paws for Peace to contribute beyond words and designs. But choosing where to focus our support was harder than we expected.
Like so many others, we’ve been deeply affected by the ongoing devastation in Gaza. We wanted to help, but quickly ran into the complexities:
-
The control of aid routes makes it difficult to know how and when support will reach those in need.
-
The scale of large international charities makes small contributions feel like drops in an ocean.
-
And most of all, we wanted to choose something that wouldn’t just respond to one crisis, but also highlight the patterns — the systems of control, division, and silencing — that affect us here, too.
Because the truth is: what we see happening “over there” is connected to what we experience here.
When the right to protest is restricted in Britain, when journalists are silenced abroad, when propaganda drowns out reality — we are all diminished.
Why Liberty & Justice for Journalists
That’s why, after reflection, we’ve chosen to support two organisations whose work speaks directly to these connections:
-
Liberty defends civil liberties here in the UK. They fight for our right to protest, resist mass surveillance, and hold government power accountable. Without them, the erosion of rights in our own backyard would go unchallenged.
-
Justice for Journalists Foundation protects those who protect the truth. They support journalists, filmmakers, and citizen reporters around the world who face harassment, censorship, and violence for speaking out. Without them, the truth about conflicts like Gaza — and corruption everywhere — would be buried.
Together, they reflect the twin pillars of a healthy, civilised society:
🧑⚖️ The right to act.
📰 The right to know.
🤖 Where AI Fits In
We know AI is already being used to drive stock markets, accelerate weapons systems, and manipulate public opinion. That’s the story most of us hear — and for good reason.
But this project is also about showing another path.
We’ve used AI here not as a weapon, but as a tool for resilience, creativity, and connection.
-
To reimagine protest art, giving old movements fresh life and a new audience.
-
To help shape words when speaking out felt overwhelming or too complex.
-
To organise and refine ideas, turning raw frustration into something that can travel further than one voice on its own.
AI hasn’t replaced our human effort. It’s amplified it. It has allowed two parents in Cornwall to speak into global conversations we’d never reach alone. And if it can do that here, imagine what it could achieve if harnessed for better systems, more truthful media, stronger communities, and fairer democracies.
This project is our quiet rebellion — but it’s also our quiet experiment in what AI could be.
A Quiet Connection
We chose these charities not because they are the biggest or the loudest, but because they are focused, effective, and rooted in principles that matter everywhere.
By supporting Liberty and Justice for Journalists, we are drawing a line between our daily lives in the UK and the struggles happening globally. It’s all connected: the freedoms we defend here, and the freedoms denied elsewhere.
And while our contribution may be small, it is intentional. It is about more than aid — it’s about awareness, solidarity, and keeping the conversation alive.
What This Means for the Project
Every design in the Paws for Peace collection now carries this commitment.
Profits from sales will be donated equally to Liberty and Justice for Journalists Foundation.
Every purchase not only keeps our quiet rebellion alive, but also shines a light on the work of those protecting rights and truth.
Because peace isn’t possible without rights.
Rights aren’t possible without truth.
And truth isn’t possible if voices are silenced — whether in Gaza, or here at home.
